Kendhoo constituency MP, Ali Hussein has said that no law bans calling for the withdrawal of charges.
Ali Hussein who is also a lawyer by profession stated that it is not a crime to call the Prosecutor General to withdraw charges against a person.
Ali Hussein made this remark following the criticism of the current Prosecutor General regarding the call of Gasim Ibrahim to withdraw the charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed. The Prosecutor General alleged that action will be taken against the leader of the Jumhooree Party for calling him to withdraw the charges against Nasheed.
Gasim said that there is no meaning to charge former President Nasheed while the other defendant involved in the case is appointed now as the Minister of Defence.
Gasim called the government to establish justice and fairness. He said that the government should stop intimidation of their opponents and stifling freedom of speech.
During the meeting of the Jumhooree Party and the MDP, thousands of attendees at the gathering all stood up and called the authorities to withdraw the charges against Nasheed.
