MDP asked to provide fingerprint of Nasheed، 23000 of its members

Elections Commission of the Maldives has asked the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party to provide the fingerprints of 23،059 members who have submitted the party registration forms.
The party informed that on the list sent by the Commission for the party to provide fingerprints include former President Mohamed Nasheed، along with founder members and top officials of the party.
Previously it was not mandatory to include fingerprint on the membership registration form، however، with the new Political Parties Act amendment، all the parties are notified to include fingerprint of the individual applying for party membership.
The last EC statistics show that MPD has 46،608 members registered in the party، making it the political party with the most members in Maldives، with the ruling PPM with 36،236.
