An MOU has been signed between the Government of Maldives and China, to provide cataract operations for 100 Maldivians.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony held in Health Ministry this evening. Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Fukang signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese Government. Health Minister Irthisham Adam signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian Government.
Speaking in the ceremony, Ambassador Wang said that an MOU on the health sector had been signed when President Xi Jinping visited the country. He further said that additional assistance will be provided to the nation.
Health Minister Irthisham Adam said that the operations will be carried out by a team of Chinese doctors and specialized nurses. She added that the machineries, resources and medication used for the operations will be donated to the Health Ministry.
“This is a new beginning. We are calling this the dried journey. Additional services will be provided under this journey,” he said.
Irthisham said that the agreement was a vital chapter in Chinese assistance in developing the health sector and offering quality health care to the Maldivians.
The operations are scheduled to be held late this month in Hulhumale’ hospital.
