Government Hands Over Kelakuna and Farukolu Protected Areas to MTDC for Nature Park Development

The protected areas of HDh. Kelakuna and Sh. Farukolu have been officially handed over to the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) for the development of eco-friendly nature parks.
Both Kelakuna and Farukolu are designated protected areas under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act of Maldives. The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy announced that the development of nature parks in these zones will follow strict environmental regulations.
According to the government, the project will be executed in four phases over the course of one year, guided by technical expertise from the Ministry of Tourism.
This initiative is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's broader pledge to expand tourism opportunities in the northern regions and to establish nature parks across all atolls.
