"Yameen attempted to jail Nasheed prior to Presidential elections" – Mahloof

South-Galolhu constituency member Ahmed Mahloof claims President Yameen Abdul Gayoom had attempted to imprison former President Mohamed Nasheed prior to the 2013 Presidential Elections.
According to Mahloof، who made the statement during last night’s opposition-led rally near Nalahiya Hotel، claiming that President Yameen had discussed and recommended to the then President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik to jail Nasheed before 2013 presidential elections.
He also added that the Maldives Supreme Court was “okay” about imprisoning the former president as well.
However the alleged conspiracy، never took wing due to former Defense Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim and former Commissioner of Police and current Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz disapproving to proceed with the “scheme”، since MNDF and Police were not supportive of it as well.
“Supreme Court was ‘okay’ about jailing Nasheed، but the plan had failed due to the disapproval of Colonel Nazim and Abdulla Riyaz” Mahloof claimed.
Mohamed Nasheed، former President of Maldives was jailed of being guilty over the kidnapping of Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed. Nasheed was charged with terrorism offense، and is currently serving jail time at Maafushi. Nasheed’s sentence lasts for a period of 13 years.
In addition to this، Mahloof had asserted that apart from China، none of the foreign nations are willing to stand-beside Maldives over the current civil unrest and political conflicts on-going in Maldives.
