Adhaalath Party was never one that endorsed extremism, says leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla.
Sheikh Imran, one of the four opposition leaders, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for “inciting violence” at the mass May Day rally in 2015, was recently released under a stay order issued by the Supreme Court on the 01st of November.
Responding to reports that his party carries extremist religious ideologies, with accusations that members of the party are also religious extremists, Sheikh Imran stated these reports "are baseless".
He noted that many political figures will agree these that this is untrue.
“Adhaalath Party has never endorsed extremism. Both the local and international community will know how the party has worked, within the past 13 years or so since its establishment," added Imran.
The AP leader also commented regarding claims that the party's beliefs have changed, saying that its regulations clearly notes how the party should be.
He added that one individual's opinion does not represent the whole party, and that its decisions are made through its congress as per regulations.
