A Maldivian who attended the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia died on Tuesday during treatment.
Vnews was informed that the elderly man, from AA. Ukulhas, traveled for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage with the state-owned Hajj Corporation. The Maldivian Hajj Mission also revealed he was admitted to King Faisal Hospital about 10 days ago, after suffering from a heart condition.
He was one of 3 Maldivian pilgrims who died during the pilgrimage. The other two were 51-year-old Jameela Mohamed (of Kandufinige, R. Hulhudhuffaaru), who traveled with Acro Hajj Group; and Abdulla Nasir (of Aaraamuge, Dhoodigan, Fuvahmulah) who traveled with Sisilfaru Hajj Group.
All three had reportedly completed the main ritual of the pilgrimage at Arafat plains, with the help of Saudi Arabian government.
The Saudi Arabian government reserved a quota of 2,000 for Maldives this year. Half of the quota was reserved for Hajj Corporation, while the remaining 1,000 were distributed equally among 5 private companies permitted by the government. These 5 companies are Mina Hajj and Umra, Sisilfaru Hajj and Umra Group, Al-Haramaini Hajj and Umra Company, Acro Pvt. Ltd., as well as Zaee Hajj Group.
Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh was sent as “Ameerul Hajjaj” this year, to oversee Hajj-related arrangements.
