Maldivian, the national carrier, has stated that they had initiated the preliminary work to provide sea plane services 10 days before and that the maiden flights will be held for Th. Atoll.
Ali Nashath, Head of Administration for Island Aviation, the parent company of Maldivian, stated even though initially Maldivian sea plane services would only be given to Th. Atoll, that the plan was to extend sea plane services to the whole of Maldives as soon as possible.
"Initially we plan to introduced the service first to Th. Atoll. We will expand our services to other areas after that," Nashath stated.
Island Aviation Services (IAS) reported that they had received the permits to erect floating jetties from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) only three weeks ago and that the company had started working on the floating jetty 10 days before.
"We are erecting the floating jetty east of the Air Traffic Control Tower. The current jetty has a capacity of 8 sea planes, with the capability to expand in the future if necessary," Nashath said. He also said that only two sea planes will be in operation for the inaugural flights.
