Maldives is set to hold an international tourism film festival, for the first time in the country's history.
The event - which is organized by The Sun Siyam Irufushi Maldives in association with Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and National Centre for the Arts (NCA) - is slated to take place at The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi resort from 10th to 12th of July 2016.
During a conference held at Mookai Hotel, Mohamed Adam - on behalf of MMPRC - said that the company will promote the event in the international arena. In this regard, he said that the event had already been promoted during the Maldivian Night that took place at the ITB fair.
While this year is marked as the “Visit Maldives Year”, the initiative of holding an international film festival would be a massive milestone, which will also open the opportunity to showcase Maldivian talents at an international level.
Ahmed Nazim - on behalf of NCA - said that they will conduct an art exhibition as well as a photo and craft exhibition. He added that this will display the Maldivian history, tradition and culture to the world, and will support the aim of bringing Maldivian artists to the global market.
The festival - dubbed as “Following the Equator” is now open to the locals as well as foreigners for participation.
Any video that is submitted to the event must be 1 to 13 minutes long, and should be sent before 31st May 2016.
The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi resort said that the event will be a boon to the Maldivian tourism industry, and will boost the prospects of being part of other film festivals around the world.
