A cable belonging to MNBC has been cut during the live broadcast of a meeting held by Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee to question Human Rights Commission (HRCM).
According to members of MDP, the cable was cut by Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed of PPM.
The program was broadcasted live on MNBC, DhiTV and VTV. MDP members said that Ilham asked a cameraman of DhiTV to identify which of the cables belong to MNBC, before cutting it off.
The cameraman said that Ilham did ask him to identify the cable which belongs to MNBC, but does not know if it was Ilham who cut it.
When MDP members at the Committee came to know of the cut-off cable, they requested for a break. Following a heated argument, they requested for an immediate end to the live feed of the Committee meeting by the remaining broadcast stations.
The Committee meeting was halted as per the wishes of its members. Committee Spokesperson and Kulhudhuffushi Dhekunu MP Mohamed Nasheed met with Officers of MNDF, and requested them to check the recordings on the CCTV cameras to find the person responsible for cutting the cable.
The Committee meeting resumed after bringing the issue to MNDF’s attention. However it ended shortly after wards as the case was brought up by several members during the meeting.
Ali Waheed said that the CCTV cameras at the area where the cable was cut are broken. He called Majlis President Abdulla Shahid to carry out thorough investigations into this matter.
