Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that this year saw the highest collection of Fitr Zakat in Maldives, with a total of MVR 13,264,819 collected nationwide.
This marks a steady increase over previous years. In 2023, MVR 12,691,506 was collected, while in 2022, the amount stood at MVR 11,669,385. In 2021, MVR 12,594,777 was paid in zakat.
Speaking to Mihaaru News, Minister Shaheem said that the rise in zakat contributions to increased public trust in the Zakat House and the implementation of a robust collection system.
This year, 2,765 individuals are registered on the poor and needy list, each receiving MVR 4,500 in zakat distribution.
