President congratulates Suha on winning Meedhoo Council President election

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to Suha Ibrahim, the newly elected President of Meedhoo Council, after she emerged victorious in the extra round of polling for the post.
In a social media post, President Muizzu congratulated Suha Ibrahim and thanked the people of the constituency and all those who worked to secure the win.
The election was held following a decision to conduct another round for the post of Meedhoo Council President in the 2026 Local Councils Election, after votes of more than one candidate were tied.
According to the provisional results, Suha Ibrahim of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured 529 votes, while Mohamed Shahid of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) received 449 votes. A total of 985 people voted in the election, out of 1,049 eligible voters.
The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) set up three polling stations for the extra round, with two ballot boxes placed at the Atoll School in Meedhoo and one at Dharumavantha School in Male’. Voting took place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Of the eligible voters, 587 were from Meedhoo and 462 were registered to vote in Male'.
