His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé after concluding his official visit to Malaysia, undertaken at the invitation of His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
During the visit, the President was accorded a warm welcome at a ceremonial reception held on April 28th in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s federal administrative capital.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the President’s address at the Maldives–Malaysia Business Forum 2025, where he invited Malaysian businesses to explore the growing investment opportunities in the Maldives.
The President also met with members of the Maldivian community residing in Malaysia. At a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, he announced that beginning next year, the Government will allocate an annual contribution of USD 3,000 in Malaysian ringgits to support the Maldivian Students Association (MSA). He also inaugurated the association and officially launched Maldivian ID Card and Electronic Passport services in Malaysia.
A significant moment of the visit was the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). Following the ceremony, the President delivered a keynote lecture titled “Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Development of Islamic Civilisation.”
Additionally, President Dr Muizzu met with staff from the Maldives High Commission in Malaysia and commended their efforts in serving the Maldivian community.
He was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Cabinet ministers and senior Government officials.
