Maldives confirms Indian minister's visit

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj’s visit to the Maldives in the coming week.
MFA via a statement on Thursday revealed that Minister Swaraj will arrive in Maldives on Sunday, upon the invitation of Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
During the visit from 17th to 18th March, Minister Swaraj will be paying a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim as well as FM Shahid.
RaajjeMV understands that both ministers will be holding a one-on-one meeting to discuss cooperation between Maldives and India on a wide variety of issues of mutual concern.
Both governments are scheduled to discuss the ongoing as well as future collaboration arrangements some of which include implementation of the agreed outcomes of President Solih’s maiden state visit to India last year.
The ministry expects the discussions to focus on development cooperation as well as cooperation in health sector and enhancing contact between the people of both countries.
This comes months after India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision to provide financial assistance up to USD 1.4 billion in the form of 'budgetary support, currency swap and concessional lines of credit to fulfil socio-economic development programmes.'
