Jumhooree Party (JP) Council has made the decision to revise its basic regulations, to add the posts of party President and Vice President to its leadership.
At the JP Council meeting chaired by Leader Gasim Ibrahim last night, the decision was made to add the posts of President, Vice President, and Policy Secretary to manage the administrative tasks of the party.
Former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) member and current Registrar of JP Mohamed Imthiyaz said that eighteen members participated in the JP Council meeting last night where the aforementioned revisions to JP basic regulations were passed.
He said that the opportunity to express interest to contest for the posts of President, Vice President, and Policy Secretary will be opened soon.
“People will be elected to these posts by the votes of Council members. The person who gets most votes will be appointed to each post,” Imthiyaz said.
Imthiyaz said that despite the creation of new posts of President and Vice President, Gasim Ibrahim will remain as JP Leader, and no changes will be made to the posts of Deputy Leaders either.
A senior official of the party told Sun Online earlier on the condition of anonymity that, former President of MDP Dr Ibrahim Didi and Vice President of MDP Alhan Fahmy had conditioned joining JP on JP Council agreeing to revise article 5 of its basic regulations, such that they are appointed as JP President and Vice President respectively.
“They want to revise the party’s basic regulation such that the party is comprised of one Vice President instead of four Deputy Leaders. That is, to appoint Dr Didi as President and Alhan as Vice President if they join JP,” the Official said.
The draft resolution, of which Sun has obtained a copy, indicates that according to item 12 of article 32 of JP basic regulation, any changes to the basic regulation must be agreed upon and passed by the national committee.
