Nasheed meets with President Waheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has met with President Dr Mohamed Waheed tonight.
The meeting, which lasted about 20 minutes, took place at Muleeaage.
Nasheed was the first to exit Muleeaage after the meeting. He refused to respond to reporters’ questions, as did Waheed, who came about two minutes later.
Former chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mahchangolhi-South MP Mariya Ahmed and several other MPs of MDP were outside Muleeaage during the meeting.
When asked by Sun Online reporters, former chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mahchangolhi-South MP Mariya Ahmed said that she was not informed of the purpose of the meeting.
She also dismissed the question as ‘childish’ when asked about who initiated the meeting.
Press Secretary at the President’s Office, Masood Imad told Sun Online that the meeting was requested by Nasheed.
He said that President Waheed agreed to the meeting because Nasheed is a former president.
Masood however did not provide any details on what was discussed during the meeting.
Meanwhile, in an address to the nation this afternoon, President Waheed said that he hopes that the Supreme Court will soon announce its ruling on the election case, currently being deliberated by the court.
The president urged all parties and institutions to give their cooperation in implementing the order, when Supreme Court makes a decision. This is not the time to create disputes among the three powers of the State, he said, but rather a time to be thoughtful and protect the safety and security of the people.
After the Presidential Debate held on 1 September, Nasheed left the hall immediately without waiting to shake hands with President Waheed.
