Maldivians travelling to Azerbaijan will no longer require a visa for short stays, following the entry into force of a new bilateral agreement.
Effective from 29 April 2026, Maldivian nationals holding ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days from the date of entry.
The arrangement follows an earlier mutual visa exemption agreement between the Maldives and Azerbaijan for holders of diplomatic and official passports, which has been in effect since 18 June 2025.
With the implementation of the agreement signed on 24 September 2025 covering ordinary passport holders, all Maldivians are now eligible for visa-free entry into Azerbaijan for short-term visits.
However, individuals intending to stay beyond the 90-day period, or those travelling for employment, education or business purposes, will still be required to obtain an appropriate visa prior to travel.
The government described the development as a significant milestone in its broader efforts to expand visa-free travel opportunities for Maldivian citizens.
