IUM campus to be established in Hulhumale’ Phase two

A new campus of the Islamic University of Maldives will be developed in Hulhumalé Phase I, the university has announced.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Ahmed Ameen said in an interview with PSM News that 35,000 square feet of land has been allocated for the project. He added that design work is currently underway, with efforts also in progress to assemble the technical team.
Ameen said the development aims to create a university complex comparable in structure to institutions abroad. As part of the plan, several faculties currently based in Malé are expected to be relocated to the new campus.
“Rather than establishing all faculties under one roof, we are working to create specialised faculties in separate buildings, including designated areas for dormitories and recreational facilities. Although it will be smaller than universities abroad, we are working to develop separate buildings,” he said.
Meanwhile, construction is also ongoing for an IUM facility in Hulhumalé Phase I. The Sanaabeel building, an eight-storey mixed-use development, is scheduled to be completed and operational by September this year.
The university is also expanding its presence across the atolls to improve access to higher education nationwide. According to Ameen, six temporary campuses have already been established on islands, with plans to develop a total of 11 campuses in both northern and southern regions of the Maldives.
