Maldives' Sea to Air Cargo Service Exports Over 1,078 Tons of Goods

The Sea to Air Cargo Transshipment service, introduced by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) in 2024, has successfully handled over 1,078 tons of cargo, equivalent to 258 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), according to the Ministry of Transport.
Launched in May of last year, the service has proven to be a game-changer in improving global trade efficiency by seamlessly combining sea and air transport. The Ministry emphasized that this initiative has significantly enhanced connectivity, positioning the Maldives as a key player in international logistics and trade.
This service is the result of a collaborative effort between MPL, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Customs, and the Maldives Shipping Services (MSS). It aims to swiftly and safely deliver goods arriving by sea to their air destinations. The Ministry also highlighted that the service has generated more than three million US dollars in revenue for the Maldivian economy so far.
As the Maldives continues to strengthen its logistics capabilities, the Sea to Air Cargo service is seen as a critical step towards fostering economic growth and enhancing trade efficiency.
