Tourism Minister joins ruling Maldivian Democratic Party

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has officially joined the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Saturday evening, August 26.
The minister, who had previously declared his endorsement for the MDP candidate and incumbent president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is running for re-election, left the Jumhoree Party (JP) two weeks ago. He formally submitted his membership form to President Solih on Saturday evening.
Mausoom was appointed as the Minister of Tourism through the cabinet slot receive to JP, which was a coalition partner of MDP in the 2018 election.
After JP leader Qasim Ibrahim announced the party’s exit from the ruling party’s coalition and began his presidential campaign independently, minister Mausoom stepped away from JP’s political activities.
Before he joined JP, he was a member of the now defunct Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) originally founded by the former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
