"Dad spent good amount of his life to safeguard human rights in Maldives" – Meera Nasheed

The convicted former president Mohamed Nasheed’s eldest daughter، Meera Laila Nasheed، 18، has stated that her father spent huge part of his life to ensure the human rights in Maldives.
Meera made the statement while speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council session held today at Geneva، on behalf of Freedom Now.
Freedom Now is a human rights advocacy group، focused on freeing prisoners of conscience through focused legal، political and public relations advocacy efforts.
Speaking regarding her father، Meera said she is concerned about her father’s well-being، whilst kept in jail.
Moreover، Meera said the trial was politically motivated، and while the trial was conducted within the judiciary، the court has violated the due process.
In addition، noting that many foreign bodies have called on the immediate release of her father، Meera highlighted that the Maldives Government had assigned UK Ex-PM’s wife Cherie Blaire as the government’s legal counsel.
“I hope that UN’s Working Group will come to a transparent and fair decision. I also hope that the Government would respect and follow the outcomes of the Working Group’s decision،” Meera said.
