Rasfannu beach reopens after major renovation

The popular Rasfannu artificial beach area has officially reopened to the public following extensive renovation works that began in April.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development handed over the development project to Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) and Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to address longstanding issues affecting the beach area.
The renovation project, inaugurated by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib, encompasses several critical improvements. MTCC has completed the installation of a new drainage system to improve water drainage in the northern part of the beach area, replaced the existing embankment with modern culverts, and implemented solutions to combat beach erosion. Changes to the outer embankment have also been made to enhance water flow throughout the beach area, while the irrigation system has already been completed.
MWSC has been awarded the contract to establish essential public facilities for beachgoers, including toilets, drinking water fountains, and lockers. These amenities aim to improve the overall visitor experience at the popular coastal destination.
Originally developed and opened in 2016, Rasfannu was created to provide a comfortable recreational environment for Male' residents under the supervision of the Ministry during the tenure of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who served as Housing Minister at the time. The area features various amenities including benches and barbecue areas for family relaxation, a special hut and other facilities for recreational fishermen, as well as a designated parking zone for visitors.
The Ministry confirmed that the renovated Rasfannu area is now open to the public, offering an improved environment for leisure and family activities.
