Ali Waheed: MDP fining would go to court

MDP Chairperson Ali Whaheed has said that party does not accept the MVR 47,000 fine and would take the issue to court.
Speaking at a ceremony held by the opposition coalition, Ali Waheed said that the steps against MDP were taken without a chance to respond and without an investigation.
“I want to say that we don’t accept the unlawful decision the Election Commission has taken. We’ll go to court.” Waheed said.
The MDP chairperson questioned about the Election Commission’s presence when opposition gangs come into the protests and induce fear with sharp weapons and vandalize property.
“Where were you when people threatened us, destroyed our things, who pointed knives at us and destroyed our trucks when we came out to protest? Where was the Elections Commission? Where was your responsibility?” Waheed said. Raising concerns for the MVR 33,000 fine on Adhaalath Party along with MDP, Ali Waheed said that if the Election Commission wants, they can abolish MDP and Adhaalath Party. And even if they abolish the two parties, the work against cruelty by the opposition would continue.
A press release issued by the Elections Commission says the two parties were fined for the violation of the law of political parties and the law of peaceful protest by attacking the police, vandalizing property and for calling for violence.
