Tourism Minister Ali Waheed is on a three-day tour of Laamu atoll, as part of the ministry’s work to expand local tourism.
The ministry is to visit Gan, Fonadhoo, Kahdhoo and Baresdhoo islands during the trip.
In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry said that the purpose of the trip is to inquire on the challenges to local tourism, as well as the needs.
The minister is to meet with the island councils and other relevant bodies.
Minister Waheed is accompanied by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) managing director Mohamed Raaidh, as well as officials from the ministry and MITDC.
He is to travel to other parts of the country as well, in the work to expand domestic tourism.
