Maldivian, the national airline, has announced a 15 percent reduction in domestic airfares for Free Independent Travelers (FITs)—tourists arranging their own trips without travel agency assistance.
The airline described the move as a key initiative to boost the local tourism sector. Typically, FITs face higher fares due to the absence of agency packages, but this reduction offers an average 15% discount off current prices.
The change aims to make domestic travel more affordable for FITs, fostering tourism growth and spreading economic benefits across the country, according to Maldivian.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to supporting local tourism and enhancing passenger benefits. By offering affordable travel, we aim to extend tourism’s advantages to various regions,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Maldivian’s managing director.
FITs can book tickets via Maldivian’s official website (maldivian.aero), mobile app, or by emailing [email protected]. Online travel agencies (OTAs) and passenger sales agents (PSAs) also offer access.
As the Maldives’ largest domestic carrier, Maldivian serves 17 destinations, from northern to southern atolls.
