Shifan accuses “an ACP” of altering his records, seeks investigation

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ahmed Shifan, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority, and corruption, has accused another ACP from Maldives Police Service (MPS) of altering his records and including false information.
The allegations against Shifan were reported to Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem, Chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee), in a letter from 11 senior police officers, all above the rank of Chief Inspector, acting as whistleblowers.
In the letter, Shifan is accused of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority and corruption. Shifan has denied the allegations against him, citing they stem from a “personal vendetta” against him by a group of people.
In a letter to Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Shifan stated that he was informed by the Digital Technology and Data Department that his personal data records on the Maldives Police Service’s system had been “altered by an ACP” in May of this year.
He added that the matter was officially brought to the attention of Maldives Police Service on May 29th. He added that someone with access to MPS’s system had leaked information about him—much of it false—to the media on Saturday.
As such, he requested Naveen to investigate the matter.
