The Civil Court has ordered Hanbo to provide an apartment and pay financial compensation to one of the victims of the K-Park scandal.
The K-Park project was launched by Hanbo in 2016. But the condominium has remained unfinished, with the project embroiled in scandal, with its minority shareholder convicted of defrauding dozens of people who paid booking fees for apartments at the K-Park Residences.
The lawsuit was filed by Fathimath Moosa Manik, who paid MVR 4.1 million to purchase an apartment at the K-Park Residences in 2019, but never received her apartment nor had the money returned to her.
She asked to be given the apartment or returned the money she paid and an additional MVR 25,000 per month for the time she failed to receive the apartment.
Hanbo did not contest the lawsuit.
The court therefore ordered Hanbo to hand over the apartment to her by the end of February, MVR 1.9 million in compensation, and another MVR 25,000 per month.
It was Hanbo and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) that reported the allegations of fraud to the police in 2023, naming Hanbo’s then-minority shareholder Hassan Mamdhooh (Manday) as the prime suspect in the case.
Manday and his associate Jaishan Saeed were tried for over 200 charges, collectively, for defrauding over 50 people.
In December, Manday received a lengthy sentence of 397 years in prison, while Jaishan received 159 years.
