An inmate incarcerated at the Hulhumale’ Prison died on Monday morning, a week after he was admitted to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.
Maldives Correctional Service identified the deceased as Ibrahim Suhail, 53, Dhafthar number 439.
According to the Correctional Service, it has been a week since he was admitted to IGMH after his health condition deteriorated.
He later developed pneumonia while at the hospital, and died at around 09:05 am Monday.
According to the Correctional Service, Suhail had been receiving treatment after suffering a stroke last year.
Correctional Service said that they immediately notified his death to his family, the police, Inspector of Correctional Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, and the National Integrity Commission.
