Over 53,300 cases of canned tuna for the upcoming month of Ramadan were distributed in the greater Male’ area as of Wednesday, according to the Local Government Ministry.
The government has announced that cases of 48 cans of tuna will be distributed to 118,773 households for Ramadan this year; 61,755 households in Male’, and 56,918 in the atolls.
The distribution of canned tuna cases kicked off in the greater Male’ area on January 24.
The Local Government Ministry says that total 53,308 cases were distributed in Male’ by the end of Wednesday. The mass distribution of tuna cases has now wrapped up, but it will continue to be available for collection from the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) center from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm.
The market rate for a case of Felivaru canned tuna is MVR 760, meaning the government is distributing MVR 90.4 million worth of tuna cases this year.
