Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has introduced advanced laser technology for a range of surgical procedures, marking a significant development in surgical services at the hospital.
Malé City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem announced in a social media post that the procedures will be carried out by the General Surgery team under the hospital’s Department of Surgery.
According to Haleem, four types of laser-assisted surgeries are now being performed at the hospital. These include Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) for varicose veins, laser hemorrhoidoplasty for piles, Fistula Tract Laser Closure (FILAC) for anal fistula and Sinus Laser Closure (SILAC) for pilonidal sinus treatment.
He stated that the introduction of the technology allows procedures to be performed with minimal cutting, resulting in reduced pain, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays and a lower risk of infection for patients.
Meanwhile, IGMH Senior Consultant Surgeon Abdullah Ubeid said the use of laser technology is expected to expand to additional specialties, including plastic surgery.
The procedures were introduced after medical teams from the hospital participated in specialised training workshops conducted at hospitals in India.
