Maldives pursuing diplomatic efforts to ease economic impact

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam, has stated that diplomatic channels are being actively utilised to engage bilateral partners and international organisations in efforts to cushion economic shocks.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, Minister Iruthisham said countries, including the Maldives, are facing import difficulties due to the war in the Middle East. However, discussions are ongoing with allied countries to secure food, basic supplies and other essential goods, she said.
The Minister further said that since taking office, she has been in contact with European and Arab ambassadors to explore opportunities for the Maldives. She stressed that all efforts are being carried out in alignment with the government’s “Maldives First” policy. The government is shaping its foreign policy based on national priorities, challenges faced by small island nations, and future preparedness, she added.
Minister Iruthisham said the government is closely monitoring the Middle East conflict and tracking the status of Maldivian citizens residing in affected countries to ensure they receive the necessary assistance.
