Police Report: 96% of Individuals Stopped in Male’ Operations Had Criminal Records

Police statistics have revealed that 96 percent of individuals stopped and questioned during street operations in the Malé area last month were found to have criminal records.
According to data released by the Maldives Police Service, a total of 5,015 people were stopped and questioned in June as part of operations carried out by the Male’ Frontline Policing Department. Of these, 4,833 individuals had prior criminal records, while only 182 had no record.
The operations also included the establishment of 11 Visibility and Traffic Management Points and inspections of 45,380 locations across the city.
In addition, police officers conducted 1,037 hours and 48 minutes of foot patrols during the same period.
The report noted that items worth over MVR 4.1 million were recovered during the operations. Motorcycles accounted for the largest proportion of recovered property, followed by mobile phones, cash, and electronics. The total value of recovered goods reached MVR 4,102,565.
Police also stated that 13 foreigners were searched during these operations and handed over to Maldives Immigration for further action.
The Male’ Frontline Policing Department continues its efforts to maintain safety and security in the city, focusing on visible policing and targeted enforcement activities.
