Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, and one of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s most vocal defenders, Mohamed Shainee, has accepted the ruling party's defeat post the Presidential Election held Sunday.
The presidential cabinet member declared that “Its a new day, beginning of a new chapter to me and this Nation.”
As evident by the preliminary results of the election, incumbent President Yameen, representing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), lost to opposition coalition’s candidate and new President-Elect Mohamed Ibrahim Solih, by a difference of over 38,000 votes.
Its a new day, beginning of a new chapter to me and this Nation. This is politics. May Allah s.w.t bless this country, forgive our wrong doings, give strength to our leaders to resist the temptation to disbelieve, keep this Nation independent forever.— Mohamed Shainee (@mshainee) September 24, 2018
