17 million Rufiyaa was stolen from Fenaka with the aid of a staff of Mauritius Bank

Miadhu News has learned from a reliable source that 17 million Rufiyaa was stolen from Fenaka with the help of a staff of Mauritius Commercial Bank om Maldives.
According to reliable sources, when staffs of Fenaka went to Mauritius Commercial Bank to confirm the validity of the gurantee issued by the Bank pn the cheque, they were dealt with by an MCB staff who was involved in this fraud.
The stamp on the cheque was a stamp used by MCB. However, the bank has said that they do not use that stamp any more. Anyone who understands banking system will know that stamps of banks will not be easily accessible to everyone who works at the bank. If it is easily accessible to all staff members of a bank, then the integrity of the bank will be in question. Because according to banking regulations such stamps should be under the oversight of a senior supervisor whoi is responsible for them. Also, the bank should be responsible for bank guarantee stamps, stamped by the staffs of the bank.
If things go as such, we will have to check the validity of the stamps by the banks via the central Bank of Maldives, MMA. Hence this will be a huge challenge to Maldivian and foreign businesses in Maldives.
Since this never happened to Fenaka before, and since that they never believed a staff could be involved in something like this, they did not ensure the validity of the stamp through the bank managers.
Speaking about the case, Maldives Police said that since they are investigating the case they cannot comment on it. Several attempts were made to contact MCB but, resulted in failure.
The MD of Fenaka, Ahmed Shareef said that the company is facing financial problems due to the amount of loss.
“We have many difficulties because we lost so much money. We have many challenges in managing the company” said Shareef.
Shareef said that they have shared information about the company which gave them the fraud cheque with Economic Ministry as well. He said that the information was shared with the Ministry to prevent any damages to Fenaka in case that company is dissolved.
