The Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Mrs Apiradi Tanraporn have said that there are many areas in Maldives where Thailand can increase investments and that their target is to increase the annual business transactions up to 200 million dollars by 2018.
She came to the Maldives as the head of the Thai delegation, to participate in the meeting of Thailand-Maldives joint trade commission. However due to an unexpected issue, she had to depart last night. Speaking to the press at the airport she said that there are many areas where the two countries can collaborate to do business.
She said that the health sector, rehabilitation centers and hotel schools are areas where the two countries can work together and perform well. In addition, she said that since more than a million tourists visit Maldives annually, if Maldives can arrange a way to import vegetables and fruits from Thailand, then both these industries will develop. She also said that business of fish and other fish products is another area where both countries can work together to develop.
“Hulhumale also has a lot of scope for investments. Housing is something we can do. Also waste management is something that can be done. Businessmen who came with me will look into it tomorrow” said the Minister.
She said that even now, Thai investors have investments in the Maldivian tourism industry.
