Gili Lankanfushi faced chaos as the fire burned down 7 rooms, the main restaurant and kitchen.
Previously known as Soneva Gili, this high tier resort faced immense difficulties in putting out the fire. The fire which burned at the 1400 metre water villa was spread at a rapid pace, due to the strong northern wind.
Due to strong wind the fire to spread from the rooms to the restaurant inland.
The Official Twitter of Gili Lankanfushi stated that they would be evaluating the total damage and commencing investigation shortly. Although the fire resulted in serious damage to the property there were no casualties among tourists or workers.
Gili Lankanfushi has further stated that all guests have been arranged accommodations elsewhere.
Tourism experts have predicted the average price of a Gili Lankanfushi room to be USD 3000. Therefore, the resort is bound to face huge losses.
The staff at Gili Lankanfushi said that their main concern was the fire spreading inland throughout the island. Due to the small size of the resort, the buildings are close by to each other.
