Applications have been opened for High Court judgeship on Sunday, following the retirement of the longest-serving appellate court judge Mohamed Niyaz and the resignation of judge Mohamed Faisal.
The announcement seeking two judges for High Court by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) lists the salary as total MVR 67,000 in total: MVR 45,700 as basic salary, MVR 18,000 as living allowance and MVR 3,300 as risk allowance.
Applicants must not be members of a political party and must not have been convicted of a criminal offense punishable under Islamic law, or involving corruption or bribery. They must also not be serving a prison sentence in connection with such offenses.
Applicants must hold a first degree in Islamic Shariah or law and possess a minimum of five years of experience as a judge, lawyer, or both.
JSC has instructed to submit applications for the post before 12:00pm next Sunday via the Commission’s Fahires portal. Individuals who wish to submit hard copies of the application can do as well.
Niyaz, the longest-serving High Court judge, retired from the judiciary after 23 years of service last Tuesday, while Fasal resigned from his post on November 23rd. They both left their posts amidst disciplinary proceedings against them by JSC.
