Islamic Minister outlines plans to strengthen Islamic development in 2026

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the government will prioritise fulfilling Islamic pledges and strengthening Islamic development this year.
In a social media post, the Minister outlined the Islamic Ministry’s plans for the year, including the development of a 10-year strategic plan for the Ministry and institutions operating under it. A national conference for young imams, khateebs and Hafiz will also be held this year, he said.
The Minister said new mosques will be opened and additional mosque projects launched in Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II. Other mosque projects as well as Qur’an education and Hafiz training will be expanded nationwide. He also outlined plans for the publication of Dhivehi translations of key Islamic scholarly reference books, as well as to open new Quran centres across the country.
Furthermore, the Zakat and Waqf funds will be strengthened, through increased investment and implementation of the Zakat Act. Support mechanisms for vulnerable groups will be enhanced through Zakat beneficiary cards, while the practical work of a Waqf building dedicated to the Quran will also be implemented this year.
