The Civil Court has ordered Askoi Umrah Group to pay MVR 150,000 to a family of six from G.Dh. Thinadhoo, after the company failed to take them for Umrah despite receiving full payment.
The family had sued the company and its Managing Director, Abdullah Rasheed, seeking recovery of the MVR 155,250 they paid for the trip, along with compensation and legal costs. During the proceedings, the company agreed to settle the amount, and the court instructed Askoi Umrah Group to make the payment within seven days.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs had earlier suspended the company’s permit after multiple complaints that it had collected money from customers without arranging their Umrah trips. Askoi Travel Services Limited had also previously been fined MVR 130,000 for similar violations.
