The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has announced the appointment of Robert “Fly” Navarro—an internationally recognized sport fishing expert and founder of Fly Zone Fishing—as the official Global Ambassador for Maldives Sport Fishing Tourism.
This strategic partnership marks a major milestone in positioning the Maldives as a leading international destination for sport fishing, tapping into its vast marine biodiversity and stunning natural environment.
With over 30 years of industry experience, Fly Navarro has competed in world-class tournaments across six continents and is the co-creator of the Blue Marlin World Cup, the only global tournament dedicated to blue marlin fishing. Through his media ventures and global angler network, Navarro has earned a reputation for connecting sport fishing communities and promoting responsible fishing practices.
As his first official engagement as Global Ambassador, Fly Navarro will attend and support the Burunuboma Global Sport Fishing Tournament, scheduled to take place from May 2–4, 2025. The tournament is set to bring top international anglers to the Maldives’ waters, targeting iconic big game species such as marlin, sailfish, and more.
Navarro will also collaborate with local stakeholders to promote sustainable fishing practices, aligning with the Maldives’ broader vision of developing eco-conscious marine tourism.
