Nasheed’s advocacy team files lawsuit in Civil Court post High Court’s dismissal of the case

Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s advocate team has appealed his case lawsuit to Civil Court after it had been denied consent in High Court.
Nasheed’s advocate team had presented the case to Civil Court sometime in the afternoon today.
Following the case appealed at Civil Court، Nasheed’s advocate team member، Lawyer Ahmed Abdul Afeef stated the case of Judicial Service Commission assigning a bench at Hulhumalé court from their own judicial body must be reviewed and presented to High Court and if should any circumstances present itself prohibiting such cases to be presented at the said court then it should be presented to a court of relevance.
Nasheed’s lawsuit filed at High Court، concerns of JSC assigning a bench from the committee itself for Hulhumalé magistrate court for Nasheed’s ongoing trial was proceeded in direct violation of judicial regulations. Nasheed’s lawsuit was filed to conclude the JSC bench was therefore illegitimate.
Regarding the case، High Court ruled Nasheed’s lawsuit was filed under a Supreme Court released circular. However، there is no room for the case to be continued under the regulatory act of Supreme Court’s circular.
Following High Court’s ruling، the advocate team of Former President had asserted this conclusion is contradictory to their previous ruling on the same case.
