The First Session of the Maldives – China Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Beijing today.
At the meeting discussions were held on ways of further strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the Maldives and China. Discussions mainly focused on the developmental projects planned by the Government of Maldives including Male’-Hulhule bridge project and the airport runway project and increasing Chinese investments in the Maldives.
After the meeting the Memorandum of Understanding on Maldives joining the Maritime Silk Route was also signed. The Memorandum of Understanding will be implemented by the Joint Committee.
During the visit, the Maldives delegation will also call on the Minister of Commerce of China, His Excellency Mr. Gao Hucheng, and meet with the Secretary General of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank/Vice Minister, His Excellency Mr. Jin Liqun and officials of China EXIM Bank.
The Maldives delegation is headed by the Minister of Economic Development Mr. Mohamed Saeed. The delegation also includes Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Minister at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Ambassador of Maldives to China Dr. Mohamed Faisal
