Late Koli Ali Umar Maniku rendered invaluable services to the development of Maldives over the past 50 years, making him one of the most affluent business personalities the country has ever seen. While the late Ali Umar Maniku’s several contributions served to strengthen and bolster the Maldivian economy, his contributions in inaugurating the Maldivian national shipping line and training personnel in the field are particularly noteworthy. In that regard, he introduced and managed Maldives National Shipping Limited (MNSL) and brought notable changes to the Maldivian shipping industry. The vital role played by the late Ali Umar Maniku in ensuring that the reclamation of Hulhumale -- the satellite suburb of capital Male -- came to fruitarian was notable as well. In addition, his philanthropic activities, and his efforts to elevate personal and societal well-being of the Maldivian people are commendable. With the passing away of Ali Umar Maniku, the Maldives has indeed lost an exemplary serviceman. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of late Ali Umar Maniku.
