F. Nilandhoo Council has called on security forces to take all the essential steps in ensuring the safety and security of His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his family، regarding the explosion which took place yesterday morning in the presidential launch “Finifenmaa”، on which His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady، Fathmath Ibrahim were travelling on their way back to Malé after concluding their trip to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
The press statement released by the council today called out the authorities for an immediate investigation of the incident by any means necessary and to reveal the truth behind the incident.
The statement also said that the council is deeply concerned and in grief regarding the incident.
Former President Maumoon، PPM، Adhaalath Party، MDA and opposition party، MDP have also expressed concern with regards to this incident.
Police are working to seek help from foreign authorities to investigate this incident.
Speaking to the press in the IGMH emergency area، Superintendent of Police، Hamdhoon Rasheed said that help has been requested for the investigation of this case from Australia’s Federal Police and America’s FBI Police.
Hamdhoon said that this is a serious case and police along with MNDF are working on the investigation of this case. He also said that since the investigation is still going on، further details cannot be disclosed.
“We have taken this as a serious problem and we guarantee Maldivian citizens that Maldives Police Service along with MNDF will do all possible work together to find out the cause behind this incident”، said Hamdhoon.
Hamdhoon said that First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim، under secretary of President’s Office، Fathmath Mohamed Solih and President’s bodyguard، Mohamed Abdul Nasir، who sustained injuries in the incident are undergoing treatment at IGMH.
