The transportation services in Thaa and Laamu atoll has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). At the ceremony held at the Economic Ministry, Economic Minister, Mohamed Saeed signed the agreement on behalf of the government. And the CEO of MTCC, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem represented his company. Speaking at the ceremony, Economic Minister, Saeed said that the government is working hard to resolve the transportation difficulties facing in Thaa and Laamu atoll. “Due to all this, MTCC would manage all the services including the ferry terminal in a modern fashion.” Minister Saeed said. CEO of MTCC said that the ferry services in the two atolls would begin before the end this Ramadan. “The message to the people of Thaa and Laamu atoll is, the guarantee is, that with God’s will in the near future, a good transportation system would be established in the two areas.” Mr. Haleem said.
He said that the bus service would be starting in Laamu atoll and in the future AC busses. “More AC busses like the ones used at Hulhumalé are going to be used in that area.” Haleem said. The MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul-Raheem Abdulla, MP Riyaz Rasheed of Vilufushi constituency, MP Mohamed Musthafa of Thimarafushi constituency and the MP for Th. Guraidhoo constituency, Hussain Manik Dhonmakik also took part in the ceremony. MP for the Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul-Raheem Abdulla said that MTCC is the most trusted company for transportation services.
He said that the people of the two atolls no longer have to go through the same hardship in transportation.
