Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coastguard has begun searching for a man who went missing while out fishing on a small boat off Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo.
MNDF said that the incident was reported at 10:44 p.m. last night, and that a Northern Area Coast Guard Squadron vessel was sent to the scene of the incident immediately.
MNDF said that search efforts will continue today and tonight by sea and air.
The missing individual is Ahmed Mujthaba, 39, of Vinsam, Seenu Hithadhoo.
MNDF said that an air taxi was employed between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., and Coast Guard Ship Huravee departed from Male’ at 2:00 p.m. today to join the search efforts.
Moreover, divers of Haa Alifu Alidhoo Resort also worked with MNDF this afternoon to search for Ahmed Mujthaba.
Ahmed Mujthaba went fishing with two others on a 15-ft long, blue boat at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday.
The boat was carrying two Maldivians including Ahmed Mujthaba and a Sri Lankan when it overturned west of Dhidhdhoo at around 7:40 p.m.
MNDF has asked anyone with information on Ahmed Mujthaba or his boat to contact Coast Guard as soon as possible on 191, 3395981, or 3398898.
