President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed travelled to R. Dhuvaarau on Saturday morning to attend this year’s Fishermen’s Day festivities.
According to the President’s Office, the visit is a one-day trip.
During the visit to Dhuvaafaru, President Muizzu will participate in various activities to celebrate Fishermen’s Day, as well as the official function to mark the occasion scheduled for later in the evening.
According to the President’s Office, he will also attend the launch of several new development projects, as well as ceremonies marking the completion of a number of projects in Dhuvaafaru.
This year’s Fishermen’s Day was marred by a protest by yellowfin fishermen frustrated over the delay in the fulfillment of government pledges to them. Around 60 fishing boats gathered off Male’ in a protest that was finally dismantled by police a day later.
