Ooredoo Partners with Google to Digitalize Maldivian Businesses

Malé, Maldives — In a significant move to accelerate digital transformation across the nation, Ooredoo Maldives has partnered with Google Cloud to introduce Google Workspace to small and medium enterprises and large corporations throughout the archipelago.
The telecommunications giant announced the collaboration today, marking a strategic expansion of its business services portfolio. The initiative aims to equip Maldivian organizations with cloud-based productivity tools that enable remote collaboration, enhanced security, and streamlined operations in an increasingly competitive digital economy.
Google Workspace integrates essential business applications including Gmail for professional email, Google Drive for cloud storage, and collaborative platforms such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The suite also features Google Calendar for scheduling and Google Meet for virtual conferencing, allowing teams to work seamlessly across the Maldives’ geographically dispersed islands.
“At Ooredoo, our focus has always been on empowering local businesses to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” said Khalid Al-Hamadi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives. “This is more than just a technology offering; it’s about creating real value for businesses of all sizes, helping them grow, innovate, and succeed in today’s competitive landscape.”
The platform addresses critical challenges facing Maldivian businesses, particularly those operating across multiple islands or managing remote workforces. Companies can now access branded email addresses to build professional credibility, while real-time document collaboration eliminates the delays associated with email attachments and version control issues.
Security features built into the cloud-based system provide businesses with enterprise-grade protection for sensitive data, a growing concern as cyber threats become more sophisticated. The platform’s compliance capabilities also help organizations meet regulatory requirements without investing in expensive infrastructure.
Rajesh Mehta, Chief Business Officer at Ooredoo Maldives, emphasized the localized approach to implementation. “By bringing this global solution with local support, we make it easier for Maldivian businesses to embrace digital transformation with confidence,” Mehta said.
Ooredoo will offer customized packages tailored to different business scales, from startups and small offices to large enterprises. The company plans to provide local billing options, flexible licensing arrangements, and dedicated customer support in Dhivehi and English, addressing previous barriers to cloud adoption among Maldivian businesses.
The partnership comes as the Maldives continues its push toward economic diversification beyond tourism. Industry observers note that improved digital infrastructure and productivity tools are essential for sectors such as fisheries, renewable energy, and financial services to compete regionally.
Businesses interested in Google Workspace can register through Ooredoo’s business division, with implementation support available for organizations transitioning from traditional on-premise systems to cloud-based platforms.
The collaboration positions Ooredoo as a key enabler of the Maldives’ digital economy, leveraging its existing telecommunications infrastructure to deliver enterprise solutions that were previously accessible primarily to multinational corporations or businesses with international partnerships.
