RDC misses deadline to fix Ameenee Magu

Despite assurances from the Road Development Corporation (RDC) that repairs to Ameenee Magu would be completed by the end of September, the work remains unfinished.
The road, which was redeveloped to modern standards under the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration, still has a stretch, from the Food Court to the Dhiraagu headquarters, that was left incomplete when the current government took office.
The most severely affected section lies between the Voice of Maldives building and the Viyafaariveringe Mosque, where the asphalt has lifted and deteriorated, creating uneven patches and potholes. RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem previously told Sun that the corporation was working to cut away damaged tar and refill it to level the road. He had stated that the most dangerous areas would be repaired by mid to late September, with work scheduled for weekends.
However, the repairs have not been completed within the promised timeframe, and Nazeem has not responded to follow-up requests for comment. Ameenee Magu remains one of the busiest roads in Male', and the damaged surface poses a heightened risk of accidents and vehicle damage.
Separately, residents have raised concerns about tree removal along the stretch from Rasfannu to the local fish market. That issue, too, remains unresolved, adding to frustrations over prolonged urban infrastructure problems.
