President Muizzu seeks parliamentary approval for new PCB Chairman

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formally asked Parliament to endorse Mohamed Nizar as the new Chairman of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).
Following the resignation of former PCB President Mohamed Anas, President Muizzu submitted Nizar’s nomination to the parliament, which has now tasked the parliamentary State and Enterprises Committee to vet the appointment.
Nizar brings over three decades of experience in international business, corporate management and public administration. He currently serves as President of the PCB, a role he previously held from 2014 to 2019, during which he played a pivotal part in advancing the government’s privatisation and corporatisation agenda. His tenure saw the strengthening of management systems across state‑owned enterprises and a marked acceleration of the corporatisation process.
Prior to his first stint at the PCB, Nizar spent more than 20 years at the State Trading Organization (STO), holding senior executive positions—including General Manager and Deputy Director—in key divisions such as Imports, Administration, Information Technology, and Sales. While at STO, he led several strategically important projects, notably the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, the enhancement of supply‑chain logistics, and the forging of robust international business relationships.
In addition to his STO service, Nizar has been a board member of Maldive Gas Maldives Structural Products Pvt Ltd, and has contributed to national committees focused on risk management, procurement, and corporate governance.
Educationally, Nizar holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia. He has also participated in numerous international training programmes and high‑level forums on corporate governance and the management of state‑owned companies.
The parliamentary committee is expected to complete its review shortly, after which the full Parliament will vote on whether to confirm Nizar’s appointment as PCB Chairman.
